Arch-angel by GarretAJ Arch-angel by GarretAJ
I wanted to see what kind of ideas people had about this concept. It's an arch-angel and the skin and armor are one. If the skin is damaged then it scabs over with pieces of metal.

I'd love to hear what people think so far.

EDIT: Ok I made uploaded another iteration. I'm going to put together a WIP tutorial with the different steps when I'm done.

EDIT: I got everything pretty worked out. I didnt get a lot of feedback so here it is unfiltered.

I would love to know what brushes you use on his skin and the metal. There is so much more detail when you enlarge it; I was kind of shocked.

You did ask for feedback, so here it is. His left eye bugs me. I think it's just the direction it's facing with the slightly overlapping eyebrow ridge, but it looks odd. Because you can't see the rest of his eye very well your drawn to the brightness in his eyes.

I also wanted to know since you're his creator - does the metal ever heal back into skin? Or is he permanently a giant mental man?

Thanks for the complements. I used the Square Chalk brush in Photoshop for everything (Transfer is turned on with "Opacity Jitter" set to "pen pressure," with the minimum set to 40 and main slider set to 0; "Flow Jitter" is set to "Pen Pressure" and both sliders are at 0, and the The main brush opacity and flow are at 100. Then I overlay textures and smooth things out using the mixer brush tool.

Thanks for the feedback I'll take another look at it.

And my roommate came up with the idea for the skin. He says the metal will act just like a callous. So it will remain hard and protect the skin during battle but during times of peace it will heal back into soft skin.

Thanks again.

Its an amazing concept and beautifully executed. Given the amount of metal scabs Id say this fellow has been battling the minions of Lucifer for long ages now.
